Bacchus Marsh Chook auction is on Feb 23rd - next Sunday morning. Hope to see you there.......
http://marshchooks.webs.com/ournexthelmsmanauction.htm Nicola is sitting on 10 eggs due to hatch on 7 March for the long weekend. I'm continuing the experiment and trying to hatch some eggs that are over 4 weeks old. They are the last eggs from Bobby. So we are not expecting a high hatch rate.
We have 5 chooks in the garden and getting 5 eggs per day so that must be a record for Pekins! We brought Liza back from the country last week so we have 7 hens and Colin the rooster. They are all pretty nice hens, 3 darker and 4 lighter. I'm trying to get some larger darker hens bred, this autumn. Jennifer is sitting on 10 eggs due to hatch on 27 Feb. All looking good so far. We did bring her into the air conditioning on Saturday but she looks pretty sturdy. The eggs are pretty old - more than 4 weeks, they are the last of Bobby's fertile eggs so we are expecting a low hatch rate.
We are waiting, waiting, waiting for the chooks to go clucky. I have Colin and the 6 best chooks in Seddon ready for some really good chicks this Autum but no one is interested in sitting in a nest box on these hot days so the eggs are up for sale...
