All quiet in the chook yard, except for Beatrix that is. She makes more noise than either rooster. She is becoming a really grumpy old lady. Sometimes she thinks she is a goose and really gets the honking going. She is excellent - so much fun having a chook with personality.
We have only 1 free rooster left - perhaps I should name him, something exotic because he is so golden and fair. Any ideas? Jojo is still sitting on her 8 eggs. None of them have blown up but I floated all the left over ones and had about 1 in 5 looking dodgy so it will be interesting to see how many hatch. We ate the good ones in our Shrove Tuesday pancakes. :) We have lots of new fresh eggs - about 4 each day, so if anyone wants to buy any please send a note.

Five families collecting free roosters this morning. It is great to see so many city kids growing up breeding chooks. Best of luck and lots of chicks to you!
JoJo is already clucky so we'll give her some eggs. These eggs are the oldest so cross our fingers that they will still hatch. They are the last eggs from Gilbert the rooster before he was eaten by the dog! |
